Uganda visit September 2018

Surprise Surprise we arrived in Uganda 26th September as part of ITV’s This Morning 30th anniversary show. The invitation came through to Lisa Seferi (charity chair and trustee) just 2 weeks prior to us landing! This Morning wanted to film Fred Ssemmanda and the wonderful work our charity The Denise Foundation has being doing as part of Denise Robertson’s legacy.

DAY 1

The ITV crew missed their connecting flight so they were delayed by an hour, then their baggage didn’t arrive so they were delayed even longer but we eventually met up Surprised Fred, and started our journey to Rakai which took us 4.5 hours. The journey was an experience, letting us get a good grasp of the size of the area to be covered and the size of the task in hand of supporting orphans and vulnerable children in the Rakai district. We visited 3 schools where some of our sponsor children are educated and we had amazing greetings from all the children, singing and dancing.

DAY 2

Sabina school where our little ‘Queen’ Shaira lives; we were shocked at the cramped conditions in the dormitory which was ‘home’ to over 100 kids living side by side but they are happy and it’s far better than the alternative of them living in a remote area with no one taking care of them.

DAY 3

We had a very interesting night at the Banda Lodge in Masaka which consisted of loud music being played at a festival from 2am-6am but we were thrilled to be able to spend the night with Fred and Emmanuel there. The team went out for pizza last night and it was the first time Fred and his brother had ate pizza!! What a privilege to offer these people a taste of something new.
